Aug 1957- Soviet scientists were able to develop a rocket to power and enforce their ICBM (International Ballistic Missiles)
Oct 4, 1957- The first satellite, Sputnik 1 was launched from Russia into space and successfully reached the Earth's Orbit. This success had the world amazed and gave the Soviet Union big recognition for putting the first human-made object into space
Jan 31, 1958- The United States launches their first Satellite, the Explorer.
May 25, 1961- President John F. Kennedy plans and sets the objective of putting the first person on the Moon.
July 16, 1969- The aircraft Apollo 11 was launched from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The objective of this mission was to cross the orbit and into space to reach the Moon. This was the first time a spacecraft was going to the Moon.
July 20- The lunar module from the spacecraft was detached and reached the Moon surface and landed. The two astronauts that were in command of the lunar module were Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin.
July 24- After few hours on the moon, the astronauts took a 4 day journey back home returning from the Moon to Earth, splashing in the 825 miles from Hawaii.
December 7, 1972- Apollo 17 made its last mission to land on the Moon
March 23, 1983- The president of the U.S, Ronald Reagan proposed and initiated a program which was called the program of the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI). This program was developed for anti-ballistic missile system in order to prevent missile attacks from other countries. This program was soon also nicknamed "Star Wars" because of its technological and advanced features that may have been impossible to be created.
